The beauty of Coscuez and its unique nature have made it one of the mines of extraction of favorite emeralds for the miners, own and foreigners from this area of Boyacá in Colombia.
Located in the lush and green mountainous department of Boyacá, the Coscuez emerald mine covers an area of 46 hectares and is about 228 kilometers from Bogotá.
The Coscuez mine is historically one of the world's most important emerald mines, has been in operation for more than 400 years and has produced some of Colombia's finest emeralds.
Fura Gems and your arrival in Cozcuez
FURA Gems acquired the exploitation rights of the Coscuez emerald mine in Colombia in 2017. Since then, he has been working on the extraction and marketing of high-quality emeralds from this mine.
However, the arrival in the country and the emerald area was not easy, Fura Gems had to face difficulties, since at the time he only had a operating license for three years and was considered a smaller-scale project. Any strategy to continue the operation involved a huge challenge and a bet with a lot of risk.
Between 2018 and 2019 they conditioned the mine to put it at adequate operational and safety levels. In 2019 they began social impact studies and then geological analyses.
In the end, they obtained authorization for a 30-year Work and Works Plan (PTO) and the extension of the environmental license for 30 years, since then Fura Gems has implemented cutting-edge technology to improve safety and efficiency in the extraction of emeralds.
