"Don't let anyone tell you the emerald mines are ugly, not interesting or dangerous. Nothing could be further from the truth these days. People were most hospitable & friendly. We were the only tourists (only expat) in both places, the days we were there. My partner is Colombian & it was an emotional experience for her being of Muisca descent. She found an emerald in the river bed while we were fossicking in Muzo. You can't just access the national professional mines there. We subsequently visited Luis’s son Gerson at the Emerald by Love shop & workshop in the Bogota emerald district to see where the raw emeralds are transformed into jewelry & loose cut stones; beautiful. It was most informative. Gerson picked out the best emeralds from the ones we bought & made some pieces up for us in 925 silver. Very special moments"
