The day Angelina Jolie wore Colombian emeralds
If the world of emeralds and Colombian jewelry has had an epic moment in its history, it was definitely in 2009, during the award of The Elvescar Awards, by the renowned actress, Angelina Jolie.
Jolie, who paraded down the red carpet with her then husband Brad Pitt and a black dress she combined with her jewelry, wore impervious 115-carat Colombian emerald earrings and a matching ring by designer Lorraine Schwartz.

Undoubtedly, the fame that Colombian emeralds are the best in the world came to the ears of the designer and the American actress. It is a fact that in the country lies the green gems of better tone, quality, clarity and size in the world.
For this reason, the designer did not hesitate for a second to travel to Colombia to see with her own eyes the famous Colombian emeralds, being able to receive a class where the different extraction areas were explained to her, the qualities of the emeralds according to the municipality and the main sizes in which these gems are located.
From Colombia to Hollywod
Jewelry designer Lorraine Schwartz traveled to Bogota to acquire the emeralds Angelina Jolie wore at the academy awards in 2009.
The stones that adorned the angeled face of the American one, were found on 16th Street with race 6 of downtown Bogota, in the facilities of the Esmeralda International Museum. The jewelry designer arrived to get the raw material from her pieces.
The person in charge of receiving it, attending to it and explaining to her each of the different forms of the stone (square, carving, tears, ovals, marquis) was Mr. Alberto Sepúlveda, a boyacense with 30 years in the green stone business and one of the largest exporters of emeralds.
The most expensive wardrobe in history
During the award ceremony in 2009, Angelina Jolie wore earrings and a ring with large Colombian emeralds, the three jewels whose tone and beauty combined with an elegant black dress, were valued at about $3.5 million.
That night, thanks to the Colombian gems, Jolie was one of the most outstanding and admired actresses on the red carpet. His outfit is still remembered as one of the most expensive in the history of that ceremony.
